I have a letter written in 1955 by a Nees descendant, then age 78 (born 1877). She says "My father, my grandmother and 5 of us kids in a covered wagon and went to the indian nation when I was about 11 or 12 (1888,1889) lived on a farm 4 miles from Tahlaquish for 3 years. He had lawyer from Hannibal (MO) also out there. We stayed 3 years...We were to get 160 acres vs 12.00 a month but got nothing. his mother was with us...He went through Washing office after we got back to hull (Pike Co ILL), He got a letter from Washington. We could stake our claim but would not promise anything. We had to build a house on each claim and live on it but could not sell nothing....My father Great great grandpa was a full blood Cheerkee Indian. My fathers a quarter bread." Can any of us tell me anything about what might have been going on here or where I should begin my search? Thank you.

Her home was in St. Louis, from where she came to Pike Co., Illinois, to the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles Campbell, to die.
